Not a great experience so far - what I am trying to do and the issues so far . .

People,

Some years ago I forked a bot from the Loebner 2012 Prize Winner and that was a good intro into the field and the related problems and difficulties. Anyway, that bot is a bit dated now and I want to update to something more modern but I particularly wanted to have a bot that could reliably respond to spoken NL. Of the maybe 20 questions I have asked bots here, I have maybe received 4 responses . . not a good start . . Now maybe it is my Australian accent . . but I don't think so - I spoke slowly and clearly with simple sentences . .

Also, using the site was not the friendliest experience either - I created a bot for "Tech" and got an automatic avatar which I could not edit or delete to change to something else - creating the second bot was also frustrating with no real progress . .

Anyway, if people could provide feedback about my way forward it would be good - it looks like everything I need is here if I can get it all to work - I thought NLP / voice recognition would have been better than the last time I looked at it some years ago - but it does not look like it so far.

We use HTML 5 Speech for our speech recognition for the web. On Chrome this uses Google's speech recognition.

On Android we integrate with Android Speech, which uses Google's speech recognition.

For iOS we integrate with iOS Speech, which uses Apple's speech recognition.

We also have integration for Google Home/Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Hmm . . I don't understand that - I get nearly 100% success rate with that setup for typing a Google Doc but only 10 or 20% with a bot - why is that?

I would assume Google is using the same speech recognition.
Ensure you have the correct language set. You may need to set the lang to "en-AU" to account for your accent.

What is that? Windows environment variables? I use Fedora Linux . .

I have had two attempts now to get a bot going that will be good for responding to tech questions (BioMed) and with an avatar I can modify but I am still not getting anywhere . . can someone point me to some doc that will help me do what I want?

Also, the forum software should be switched to Discourse ASAP . .

Yes.

Since I am having so much trouble getting started and because I don't want to commit to a long-term monthly charge until I can see that BotLibre will do what I want, can't I just pay for a bot that does what I want to be produced? - it seems that should only take seconds to do by someone who is already familiar with the system . . once I have something I can properly test out, I can move on from there . .
